I had the recent honor of photographing Mike & Lenore’s Bethesda engagement session. And even better, Lenore is one of my good friends! When I first met Lenore in 2013, it was online and she had messaged me on Twitter, asking me if I’d come to her book signing. I was – and still am – a book blogger and (that’s right!) she’s a published author of children’s literature. I said yes and thus began our amazing friendship that’s included two book conventions, hotel room sharing, parties, and more.
I remember when Lenore first met Mike. She had just moved back to the States not a year before and we were sitting outside at a friend’s barbecue over the summer when she told me she met someone online and would be going on a date with him the next day. A couple of days later, she said to me, “Within five minutes, we were sitting together with my head on his shoulder, he made me so comfortable.” Sometimes, friends, you just know.
That’s how perfect Mike and Lenore are together. He makes her laugh, she makes him smile, and his kids love her. And because the kids love her so much, they wanted to be included, too! So we made sure to get their first family photos together and, boy, did they have a riot!
During their Bethesda engagement session, I was able to capture the essence of their love together, and the day was perfect for it. We showed up about an hour before the sun set and the yellow light sparkled through the trees at McCrillis Gardens, a beautiful spot tucked away in the back of a Bethesda, Maryland neighborhood. The azaleas were close to full bloom, in bright pinks and yellows, which created the perfect backdrop for their session.
When I look at their photos, I see a bright, sparkling love that will last forever. The kind they might even tell in children’s stories.
